Lance Cpl., a veteran of the US Marines,Jeff De Young wished to give Cena,
his black Labrador friend during battle, aMarine-worthy farewell.
The dog assisted him in coping with pain back in America and kept him warm during the chilly nights in Afghanistan.
The veteran felt it was appropriate to say his goodbyes with the utmost respect because Cena was so much more to him than just a dog.
In 2014, the cancer-stricken dog left his job as a Marine bomb-sniffer to become a service pup for Lance Cpl.
Jeremy De Young.
